Leadership solves it

I was reading a book entitled "Leading your church to explosive growth" and came across a statement that hit me right were I live.  "Leadership is the answer to every problem you have!"  So profound but yet so simple.  We can complain of the problems that we face or we can apply strong, sound, humble leadership principles to see our problems solved.  I have this feelings that the areas that I have problems are also probably some of my greatest opportunities for growth both personally and in ministry.  Leadership go...now  -pw

I had a chance to sit down with a good friend and leader last night.  Tim Black our district youth director was in town last night and it was great to get to sit down and catch up.  Tim is a great leader, I have often marveled at his ability to "make sure everyone has a ticket".  Working with over 70ish youth pastors (which in itself is no small task) Tim sets the pace and provides ministry to thousands of students in our state.  If you don't know him you should definitely check him out.  A leader of leaders, I am definitely a fan -pw

Heart and Hand

Psalms 78:72 says that David lead with 1. upright heart 2. skillfulness of hand.  I have been reading through the amplified version of the bible this year and it actually says that David lead with upright heart, discernment and skillful hands.  So here are some thoughts...

1.  Upright heart - one of the greatest struggle I have as a leader is keeping my heart upright.  I have to constantly keep checking up on my "heart".  For me it all boils down to attitude and motivation.  To keep your heart upright you have to guard your attitude to those situations and people around you.  Motivation is based around the big question "why?"  Why am I REALLY doing this?

2.  Discernment is the ability given by the Holy Spirit for wisdom and insight.  We cannot forget that ministry, even life is first and foremost spiritual and therefore must be approached that way.

3.  Skilled hands - David had some skills...slingshot skills... harp skills... dance skills...bow-staff skills..  I believe he was a learner, a student.  This is where the learning, absorbing, practicing, evaluating is invaluable.  Think about it, David was anointed King and THEN God put him under Saul...I believe to learn maybe..what not to do as king?
